Resurrection of Reading

I don’t read much anymore. I know, I know. This is like a cardinal sin for a writer. But I do have a good excuse. Recreation reading was replaced by grading. And grading saps brain power. It saps attention span. It saps the will. I still love the idea of stories. I want to read. I want to immerse myself in new worlds and characters and escape.
But like my teaching colleagues, I can’t. I can’t seem to make the transition into that immersive state because of grading.
However, I think I’ve gotten my mojo back. Audio books have been helping. I’ve been sucking them down like water this summer, and I’m even digging back into physical books. Sure, right now I’m rereading instead of reading fresh stuff, but I am not going to complain. I am thoroughly enjoying myself, and getting back some much needed creativity for my own writing.
I just need to find a way to keep up the momentum, to make sure that I don’t flare out and crash when the semester comes back full force. I may have to moderate how I do things. Change the process yet again.
