Editors
come in free and wildly expensive. Because we are authors on a budget, we’ll
opt for a free editor called Kompozer, available at their website http://www.kompozer.net for Windows, Mac,
and Linux.
Word can
export HTML documents, but those are frequently filled with a lot of
unnecessary junk (none of which you’ll see, but will be in the code). It will
display correctly most of the time, but will take much longer to load and
consume bandwidth (which you might have to pay for depending on your website
setup).
Kompozer is
remarkably like Word, allowing you to create web pages that look much like
documents with graphical layout. Explore and get used to how it works. When it
comes time to upload the page to your blog, you’ll want to use the source view
(tabs at the bottom) to copy and paste the code.
Play around
with Kompozer. Get a feel for it. Treat it like Word and push the limits of
what it can do. Speaking of Word, we’ll play around with it to unlock its
graphic potential.
