F³ Secret of Success

The takeout helped with the liquor, but I knew I’d be feeling the effects of the alcohol for hours, still. Kate and Richard sat on my couch, having a long talk. Richard appeared to be actually listening, which I considered progress given his earlier reactions.

After half an hour, right when I was considering whether or not the fortune cookies were worth it, the two of them got up.
Kate handed me a stack of Franklins.
“I’ll get you the rest, later.”
I nodded, and regretted the motion as the room bounced in my vision.
“Are you sure you won’t take it in trade?” She had a suggestive smirk and gleam in her eye that managed to set off a warning alarm in my head.
“No, thanks. I gave up taking markers from people. Too much hassle to keep track of.”
“You’re hopeless, Matt. Do yourself a favor and have yourself a good screw.”
            “I’ll get on that.”
She turned to go as Richard had already left the office, but then she turned back.
“How’d you get through to him?”
“Easy. We bonded of you guys being complete jerks.”
She chuckled. “I should have thought of that. See you around, Matt.”
            “Use the door next time.”
            “Where’s the fun in that?”
